Frequently asked questions

Do you need a German hunting license or other certifications?

No. While you don’t need your home country’s hunting license to hunt in Namibia, a Namibian hunting permit is required. Here’s a breakdown of what you actually need:

  1. Required: A Namibian hunting permit issued by the Ministry of Environment and Tourism. ANA can handle the application process for you.
  2. Required: Being accompanied by a Namibian hunting guide who has passed the Ministry’s exam.
  3. In short, you can relax and focus on your upcoming adventure. ANA will take care of the permit and ensure you have a qualified guide by your side.

Do you offer rental weapons?

Absolutely! You can rent a high-quality weapon for your hunting trip with ANA. At this point we want to offer a special thanks to our sponsors, Steyr Arms, Dentler Montage Systeme, and GPO, for providing these top-notch rifles. Here’s the breakdown of their rental options:

  1. Rental Fee:** €200 per safari
  2. Caliber: .300 Win Mag, 8X68, .338

Can you bring your own weapon?

Yes, you can bring your own weapon for hunting in Namibia, but there are some things to consider:

  1. Airline Fees: Check with your airline about any additional costs associated with transporting your firearm.
  2. Documentation: You’ll need your paperwork proving ownership of the weapon. Additionally, your home country’s airport may have specific requirements for bringing a firearm.
  3. Namibia: ANA can assist you with obtaining a temporary import permit for your weapon upon arrival in Namibia. This will require an invitation letter from ANA (which we will send to you before aarival) and a completed police form (also provided by ANA).

Overall, bringing your own weapon is uncompicated, but it involves some additional steps and costs.

Which caliber is suitable for hunting in Namibia?

Smallest calibre: .270

  • Minimum energy (muzzle velocity):
  • For small game (springbok, duiker) 1 350 J

For medium game (hartebeest, wildebeest, kudu, gemsbok, eland) 2 700 J

For plains game we recommend:

  • .300 and .338 Winchester Magnum,
  • 8×68
  • 7mm Remington Magnum

How far are the normal shooting distances?

The typical hunting distances with us are between 100 and 200 meters (109-219 yards). However, safety and comfort are a priority. We will always confirm with the hunter if they feel comfortable taking a shot at that distance.

Can I also hunt with a hunting bow at ANA?

At the moment we only offer bow hunting on special request.

Do you hunt from a car or how do you hunt?

No, ANA prioritizes ethical hunting practices and doesn’t allow hunting from cars. Rifle sight-in will be done before the start of your hunting safari at our well equipped shooting range. The primary method is walk and stalk, which involves actively tracking and approaching the animal on foot. We can also use hides, which are concealed positions where hunters wait for animals to come within range. These approaches ensures a more challenging and rewarding hunting experience.

When is the best hunting time?

The best hunting time in Namibia with ANA depends on what you’re looking for:

  • Species: Different animals have their mating seasons (rut). For example, most species are in rut during May-June, except for the Eland which is in rut in November.

Overall Season:

  • Peak Season (May-August): This is generally considered the prime time for hunting with good weather and animal visibility.
  • Mid Season (April & September): Shoulder seasons offer opportunities with slightly less pressure.
  • Low Season (February-March & October-November): These months can be hot, with hunting conditions less ideal.

Important Notes:

  • Trophy hunting season runs February 1st to November 30th.
  • Hunting is not allowed in December and January.
  • Legal hunting hours are from half an hour before sunrise to half an hour after sunset.

What clothes do I need to pack?

  1. Light clothing made from breathable fabric such as cotton, in camouflage colours like greens, browns, khaki and olive, are most recommended for hunting. Think layers – daily temperature changes in Namibia can be extreme, varying by as much as 20°C (35° F) from day to night. In the rainy season we recommend you bring some fast-drying synthetic clothing that maintains its warmth when wet. (We do laundry daily, so bear that in mind when packing.)
  2. Warm clothing is a must in the winter months, between May and September. You’ll need a warm jacket for relaxing around the open fire, and the addition of gloves, a woolly hat and a wind breaker will come in handy when travelling on the back of the hunting vehicle in the early mornings and late afternoons. Pack well fitted and comfortable walking shoes or boots.

Can I take hunted game with me? What happens to my trophies after the hunt?

You won’t be directly taking the hunted game trophies with you, but your trophies will be taken care of:

  • Taxidermy: After the hunt, your trophies are sent to a local taxidermist for preparation based on your preferences (e.g., skull mount, shoulder mount).
  • Shipping: The taxidermist will also arrange for the trophies’ transport back to you.
  • Timeline: Expect to receive your trophies within 4-12 months after full payment to the taxidermist.

Can I travel with my family or a companion?

Absolutely, you can bring your family or companion along on your Namibian hunting trip with ANA! Here’s a breakdown of what they can enjoy:

  • Hunting activities:Your family or companion is welcome to join you on your hunting expeditions.
  • Non-Hunting Activities: While you focus on the hunt, your family or companion can participate in various farm activities.
  • Swimming Pool: Relax and unwind at the large swimming pool available on-site.
  • Horseback Riding: All our farms have horses available, so they can explore the beautiful Namibian landscapes on horseback.

How do I get to you from the airport?

We will personally pick you up from the airport and transport you directly to the farm.

How much time should you plan at least?

There’s no regulation controlling the number of days a hunting safari may last. If you want to visit one farm we recommend a minimum stay of 7 days (5,5 hunting days) and a maximum of 10 days (8,5 hunting days). If you are visiting two farms, we recommend a minimum stay of 9 days (6,5 hunting days) and a maximum of 14 days (12,5 hunting days).

When are the best flights and what do I have to consider when booking a flight?

Finding the best deals:

    1. Book in advance: While deleting cookies and cache might not guarantee the absolute cheapest price, it’s a good practice to avoid price hikes based on your search history. Generally, booking 45-60 days in advance can offer good deals.
    2. Consider shoulder seasons: Peak tourist season in Namibia is mid-April to October. Flights during this time will be more expensive. Shoulder seasons (May and November) and the hotter months (October and April) can offer cheaper flights.
    3. Compare airlines and booking platforms: Use websites like Skyscanner to find airlines flying to Namibia. However, consider booking directly with the airline for potentially better deals or customer service.

Additional factors:

    1. Holidays: Flights are generally more expensive during holidays, especially European summer holidays in August.
    2. Trip duration and destinations: If you’re visiting multiple locations, factor in connecting flights or internal travel costs.
    3. Flexibility: If you have flexible travel dates, you might find better deals on weekdays compared to weekends.

Can I also plan a longer stay with you?

Absolutely! While we specialize in hunting safaris, we can definitely accommodate longer stays up to a maximum of three weeks. This extended itinerary would typically involve:

    1. Hunting: You’d have the opportunity to hunt on two different farms, maximizing your chances of encountering a wider variety of wildlife.
    2. Photosafaris: In addition to hunting days, we can incorporate dedicated days for photography safaris. This allows you to capture stunning wildlife images without the pressure of hunting.

We do not offer stays for a couple of months.

What total costs should I expect?

The total cost of your hunting safari in Namibia will depend on several factors:

  1. Group size: The daily rate generally decreases as your group gets bigger.
  2. Animals hunted: The number and type of animals you want to hunt will significantly impact the cost. Trophy fees vary depending on the species.
  3. The average costs for one week and hunting 5 animals are at 5000€ per hunter.
  4. Flights: Expect to pay €700-€1200 for round trip flights from Europe.
  5. Taxidermy and trophy transport: The excerpt mentions €300 for a skull mount and €800 for a shoulder mount per animal.
  6. Gratuities for camp staff: Tipping is customary, so factor in an appropriate amount (150€ per farm).
  7. Other activities: If you want to include photosafaris or other excursions, there might be additional charges.
